Protect Your WorkFor many artists, art theft is a frustrating reality. No matter how we watermark, logo, or constrain the resolution of our work, there are instances where artwork will be reposted, ripped, or used for commercial gain without credit or compensation. For some, this can be almost flattering, to know that there are those that like your work enough to steal it. But, the fact still remains, that your work has been used without permission, and for no gain of your own.
I have been a photographer for four years now, and throughout that time I am always learning. Part of that education is around copyright, and how to protect my work. The collage above is a brief representation of some of the ways my photography has been stolen. Some were edited without permission, event advertisements, included in a calendar, manipulated to advertise jewelry, sold on canvas, for promoting a cosmetic brand, or even for music videos.

Busy Little BeeI have been so busy lately, that I've barely spent any time on DA or my usual online haunts. I'm really sorry for the lack of activity, and I'll do my best to swing around more often.
In terms of updates, I'm not sure where to start. I've picked up one of my first commercial gigs, been published in a book and several digital and print publications, as well as made a slew of new connections that I hope will further push my photography career forward.
I have also been busy with a slew of shoots, and I can't forget about the ones I've done with the always-lovely MeganCoffey! If you haven't watched her page yet, go do so!
I've recently learned the importance of 'personal work.' One of my inspirations, Lara Jade (larafairie), speaks of the importance of doing personal work, and it didn't really hit home until recently. I found myself drowning in client work: commercial work, portraits, events, etc. It was wonderful to have the paid work, but I found myself getting stressed or losi
Daily DeviationI woke up in the middle of the night, and groggily looked through my Deviant Art notifications going: "I wonder if I'll ever get a Daily Deviation again." Then I saw a comment that said 'DD,' and there it was! What an amazing way to start my day!
Thank you so much to SavageFrog for suggesting my photograph, and to pullingcandy for featuring it!

Florida SuperconBy some strange circumstance, I am free from work on Saturday, so I'll be attending Supercon and trying my hand at cosplay photography! It's been over five years since I did cosplay photography, back in high school when all I had was a Canon xTi Rebel and a kit lens. I am excited to see what five years of experience will mean. But it'll also be nice to get a little nostalgic and just experiment for once.

Creative Week: Giveaway + IntroductionWhat is Creative Week?
Every year, I take a week away from my job to do nothing but photoshoots, in order to challenge myself and improve my skills as a photographer. Despite working for the best company in the world, my career is not in photography. This sometimes makes it difficult to find the right kind of time and inspiration to capture what I want. My annual 'Creative Week,' is a way for me to do what I love without the worry of heading into work the next day. I can focus on my creativity, and nothing more. Every year I make sure to up the ante, and this year I'll be working with a lot more talent than I have in the past, on bigger productions.
This is my third Creative Week, and similar to those in the past, I will be partnering with the wonderful Miki Sarroca (WingedInfinity). She will be serving as a make up artist, model, and she's done an incredible job of assisting me with organizing these shoots.

No more excuses, it's time to improve your art! You’re probably well acquainted with the old proverb “practice makes perfect.” And while I don’t fully believe that perfection is attainable, because the very notion of perfection is somewhat subjective, getting better at anything requires both time and effort. I’m going be very blunt here; if you want to improve your artistic skill you need to actually practice.
My heart goes out to everyone here who is struggling to improve so don’t feel that I’m purposely singling you out here. However throughout my time on dA (and in real life) I’ve met artists begging for advice on how to quickly improve and sadly when I tell them to begin practicing the excuse is always ‘well, I don’t really have the time for that.’
And I ain’t got time for yo attitude.
You do have the time

Basic CSS Style GuideIntroduction
CSS is a style language used to define the style and formatting of web pages. It is used in conjunction with HTML.
If we think of HTML as the building blocks of the web then, essentially, CSS is the painter and decorator. Very simply, HTML defines the structure of the page and CSS defines the style.
What I'll be helping you with here is getting to grips with the basics of CSS. I'll be explaining how use CSS as well as providing a number of examples that you can use to style your own web pages and journals. All you need to do is copy/paste the code and replace the sample text with your own content. Along with the quick reference I've also written a brief glossary of terms and provided a list of useful links in case you wish to do some further reading.
A point of note is that while the information and examples I've given here apply to CSS use anywhere on the web, this guide itself is geared towards the use of CSS on deviantART. As such, and given that this h
JULY Challenge WATER vote and win points:icontransparentplz:
All works here http://thefavouriteshowcase.deviantart.com/gallery/29360832
This is the new way to find our winner of our monthly challenge: instead using a Poll with the ten most voted of the period, we'll be using a blog to showcase the 20 MOST VOTED on this theme!
This means, or so I hope, more exposure for your pieces and galleries.
The idea is simple: each work has a number and all deviants have the opportunity to vote like if it was a poll...with the difference that you will choose not one but 3 favourites!
All deviants may vote, INCLUSIVE who is participating; the participants may vote for themselves and ask friends and watchers to vote; this blog may have publicity by all means and be submitted in groups.
The work with most votes wins 130 points;
the second place wins 80, the 3rd place wins 50 and the 4th wins
Manip AcademyIntroducing a new project!
Manip Academy (thanks, cristii, for inspiration for the name) is a new photomanipulation project inspired by projecteducate. We all love to learn, and we learn best from one another. Here's our chance to share what we know.
Manip Academy is an education initiative designed to spread the knowledge and the love. It is a collaboration between CRPhotomanipulation and we-HEART-photomanip. We will share tips and tricks for photomanipulation success. It is difficult to write tutorials, but anyone can write a simple tip or describe how they achieved a specific effect.
This project will feature two weekly articles written by the community every week, on Mondays and Thursdays. This will be an ongoing project within our community, and we hope that many people will take advantage of the chance to sign up to submit one blog or even just a few sentences to help the community.

Check your Angles
Avoid unflattering angles, don't frame your model with their arms or legs chopped off unless it works for the image. If in doubt, fully frame them and do the chopping afterwards in post-processing! Don't forget to check that the tops of their heads and their feet are in focus. Missing feet are disconcerting!
Be the Director
As the Photographer, most people will be looking to you for direction. There's no time to be shy when you're behind the camera! Keep calm to help your model remain relaxed but make sure they're not made to feel awkward if you lack giving instruction. Pose them well, avoid direct bright sunlight and check out your background.
Eye contact...or not
Eye contact isn't always necessary, in fact candid journalistic style photographs often work best. Your subject doesn't have to be looking directly at the camera for it to be a successful shoot, but yo
