I have been so busy lately, that I've barely spent any time on DA or my usual online haunts. I'm really sorry for the lack of activity, and I'll do my best to swing around more often.
In terms of updates, I'm not sure where to start. I've picked up one of my first commercial gigs, been published in a book and several digital and print publications, as well as made a slew of new connections that I hope will further push my photography career forward.
I have also been busy with a slew of shoots, and I can't forget about the ones I've done with the always-lovely MeganCoffey
! If you haven't watched her page yet, go do so!
I've recently learned the importance of 'personal work.' One of my inspirations, Lara Jade (larafairie
), speaks of the importance of doing personal work, and it didn't really hit home until recently. I found myself drowning in client work: commercial work, portraits, events, etc. It was wonderful to have the paid work, but I found myself getting stressed or losing motivation because I had limited creative control over the final product. It eventually took a toll on my confidence, which prompted me to seek out a personal project.
On a whim, I went 'fishing,' as I call it. It's when I'll go out and contact a fair amount of local talent I want to work with, and see who messages back. This will include models, clothing designers, stylists, and make up artists. I made one particular connection who had rented a studio and incredible wardrobe, who wanted me to be the photographer. The shoot was just what I needed, something funky and stress-free, where I could just experiment.
Below are some teasers from the shoot.
Despite two models flaking last minute, I had a blast at the shoot and managed to impress the designer of the eyewear as well as the shoes, so here's hoping to more collaborations in the future!
I hope you are all doing well, and that you enjoy these little teaser images!
